JOIN OUR BOARD
Outer Urban Projects is seeking up to two energetic and committed Board Members to work with the existing Board and support the continued growth and development of the Company. With a focus upon young emerging people, we would like to ensure younger applicants are also considered.
Under the leadership of Executive Producer Kate Gillick and Artistic Director Irine Vela, Outer Urban Projects has forged a dynamic intergenerational performing arts company that collaborates with emerging artists and their communities in the hardcore outer northern suburbs of Melbourne. The company delivers a Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) model that is ambitious in reach. Outer Urban Projects’ work resists the dominant narrative of mainstream Australia and its arts practice, to reflect the face of contemporary Australia. With a fierce commitment to its young artists, a sharply honed artistic framework, robust financial and organisational growth and a board strong on governance and arts sector advocacy, Outer Urban Projects has earned its place a vital player in Australia’s artistic landscape.
The Outer Urban Projects Board has oversight of the strategic direction of the organisation and ensures compliance with our obligations as a government and philanthropically funded public benevolent institution registered with the ACNC and with DGR status.
The Board is responsible for contributing to the strategic direction for Outer Urban Projects, as well as for the achievement of the highest standards of governance including ensuring the financial viability, solvency and sustainability of the organisation. The Board also oversees the Artistic Framework for the organisation.
Particular skills and capabilities we are seeking at this time include:
Legal: this is an experienced professional working in the legal sector with a broad understanding of the legal oversight required for a small-to-medium not-for-profit organisation working with vulnerable groups. They would support the board in identifying and mitigating risks, understanding its legal responsibilities, accessing networks, and liaising with the organisation’s pro-bono lawyers when required.
Arts: the ideal candidate is an experienced artist or arts worker who is able to utilise their understanding of the sector to inform the board’s role in developing strategy and governance oversight.
We are keen to consider people with a strong understanding of the non-profit and arts sectors, and who have an affinity with organisations working with small resources in terms of budget and staff numbers.
The roles are unpaid and will require attendance at five board meetings annually, relevant subcommittee meetings and a commitment to using your skills to promote and work for the flourishing of the organisation.
Board terms are for 2 x three year terms with the option of a third term. Meetings are held in Coburg North.
