“I just love what I do, even if I’m not famous for it I just love performing for people. Yeah, I just love making art.”

ACCESS AND OUTREACH PARTICIPANT

Access & Outreach

WORKSHOPS

Outer Urban Projects outreaches across Melbourne’s outer north to engage culturally diverse young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds with the performing arts. We offer free open access workshops targeted at those with high needs (newly arrived, educationally and/or socially disengaged) in dance, music and writing, across contemporary, cultural, street and classical forms. These are run one-to-one, in groups, face-to-face and online with wrap around community development and partner support.

LINKAGES

We link these participants and emerging artists into further training and employment across all Outer Urban Projects programs and with the company’s arts and community partners, Fee for Service clients and networks. Young people in turn connect Outer Urban Projects to their families, communities and peers, which is a vital conduit to developing our audiences. Community members and artists are engaged as advisors and co-designers on projects and annual programs.

ACCESS AND INCLUSION

“Your artists can turn around any kid to push themselves out of comfort zones and into the most gentle, soft movement or loud drumming as needed and take these boys from sitting back to letting go and just be in their mind and body. “

Re-Engagement Educator – Project R.E.A.L – Banskia Gardens Community Services – Outer Urban Projects partner

Outer Urban Projects also works with arts, council and community partners to remove barriers for our artists, participants and audiences, empowering them to engage in relevant and meaningful ways with the performing arts. This includes project and program specific translations, interpreters, multilingual project content and collateral and audio visual descriptions. It also includes cultural safety training and equality action plans pertaining to Australian and international FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE, LGBTIQIA+, CALD, LSES (Low socioeconomic status) DEAF, VISUALLY IMPAIRED and people living with a DISABILITY.
