JOIN OUR BOARD
Outer Urban Projects is seeking a Board Director who is an arts leader to work with the existing Board and support the continued growth and development of the company.
The role of a Board Director
The Outer Urban Projects Board has oversight of the strategic direction of the organisation and ensures compliance with our obligations as a government and philanthropically funded public benevolent institution registered with the ACNC and with DGR status.
The Board is responsible for contributing to the strategic direction for Outer Urban Projects, as well as for the achievement of the highest standards of governance including ensuring the financial viability, solvency and sustainability of the organisation. The Board also oversees the Artistic Framework for the organisation.
Qualities we are seeking in Board Director
The ideal candidate is an experienced artist or arts worker who can utilise their understanding of the sector to inform the board’s role in developing strategy and governance oversight.
We strongly encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented communities, including young people, migrant and refugee communities, individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, First Nations people, those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ communities, Deaf and visually impaired individuals, people living with disabilities, and those in regional and remote areas across Australia.
We are keen to consider people with a strong understanding of the non-profit and arts sectors, and who have an affinity with organisations working with small resources in terms of budget and staff numbers.
We are keen to consider people who are experienced in not-for-profit board governance, contributing to the ongoing and important work regarding policy development, best-practice governance and risk mitigation. However, board is experience is not essential.
The role is unpaid and will require attendance at five Board meetings annually, relevant subcommittee meetings, an annual strategic planning day, as well as other ad hoc training and a commitment to using your skills to support the organisation to flourish. Meetings are held at Outer Urban Projects' headquarters in Coburg North and online.
Board terms are for 2 x three-year terms with the option of a third term.

Applications must include a resume (max 2 pages) and accompanying cover letter outlining why you are interested in being Board director and provide information about the skills, experience and capabilities you can bring to the organisation.
Applications close at midnight on the 30th of November 2023. Interviews will be conducted by members of the Board in the month after applications close.
